Olivia holds a Bachelor of Animal and Veterinary Bioscience (Hons) and PhD and her research interests are focused on aquaculture and disease interactions. She  completed Honours in finfish aquaculture and nutrition and work experience in the industry. Olivia received a competitive scholarship to work on POMS disease outbreaks in Australia, and commenced her PhD in July 2012, supervised by Richard Whittington, Ika Paul-Pont and Paul Hick. Her study, which was completed in 2016, was focused on investigation of the transmission factors associated with Ostreid Herpesvirus (OsHV-1) in the Pacific oyster (Crassostrea gigas). A post doctoral appointment followed.

Olivia is currently working in the Department of Agriculture Fisheries and Forestry in Canberra
